Help Us Build Rural Nevada’s Radio Network

The Rural Nevada Repeater Cooperative is preparing to launch and grow a shared, member-owned VHF radio network. We are seeking organizations that need dependable rural communications, as well as people and organizations with access to locations that may have strong coverage potential.

Help Start and Grow the Cooperative

RNRC is being built through cooperation. Its coverage, capabilities, and long-term success will depend on members who participate in the network and property owners or partners who can provide access to strategic locations throughout rural Nevada.

Organizations Interested in Joining

We want to hear from ranches, rural businesses, nonprofit organizations, contractors, government entities, and other organizations that need reliable communications beyond the reach of cellular service.

  • Communicate across ranches, roads, and remote work areas
  • Use shared or organization-specific talkgroups
  • Help shape the network as an early member
  • Share actual infrastructure costs without a commercial profit margin

Have a Location with Strong Coverage Potential?

The location does not need existing communications infrastructure. A potential site does not need to already have a tower, building, electrical service, or internet connection. RNRC can provide the radio equipment, antenna support, equipment enclosure, power system, and network backhaul needed to operate a repeater site.

If you own, manage, lease, or otherwise control property that may provide useful coverage of the surrounding area, we want to hear about it. An undeveloped location can be just as valuable to the network as an established communications site.

  • Useful radio coverage potential is the primary consideration
  • An existing tower or antenna structure is helpful but not required
  • Commercial electrical service is helpful but not required
  • Existing internet or network backhaul is helpful but not required
  • RNRC can provide solar power, batteries, equipment enclosures, antenna support, and backhaul
You do not need to be a radio expert or own an established tower site. If you are interested in joining, have access to a potential repeater location, or simply want to discuss whether your organization or property could help, RNRC would like to hear from you.

A Radio Network Built for Rural Operations

Cellular service does not reach everywhere. RNRC is developing a cooperative VHF communications network that combines strategically located repeater sites, digital radio technology, and shared infrastructure to provide practical communications across large rural areas.

Wide-Area Coverage

Multiple linked repeater sites allow members to communicate across areas far beyond the reach of a single conventional repeater.

↔

Automatic Roaming

Compatible radios can move between RNRC repeater sites without requiring users to manually select individual repeaters.

Member Owned

RNRC exists to serve its members. The network is owned and supported cooperatively rather than operated for the profit of an outside carrier.

πŸ›

Built for the Field

The network is designed around professional mobile and portable radios intended for demanding rural and outdoor environments.

One Network. Multiple Sites.

RNRC uses Motorola MOTOTRBO digital radio technology to connect repeater sites into a shared communications network. Members can travel throughout covered areas and communicate using familiar talkgroups without having to manage individual repeater sites.

  • Wide-area VHF digital radio coverage
  • Linked repeater sites across rural service areas
  • Automatic roaming between participating sites
  • Organization-specific and shared talkgroups
  • Mobile and portable radio support
  • Optional internet-based access through WAVE PTX

Designed to Grow

RNRC is being built as an expandable communications network. Additional repeater sites, coverage areas, capacity, and communications options can be added as membership and operational needs grow.

Expandable Coverage New repeater sites can be added to extend service into additional rural communities and operating areas.
Expandable Capacity Infrastructure can be expanded as more organizations and radios join the cooperative.
Built for the Future RNRC's technology strategy allows the network to evolve into larger MOTOTRBO system architectures if future growth requires it.

Built for Rural Nevada

RNRC is intended for organizations that operate across large areas where dependable field communications are important and cellular coverage cannot always be relied upon.

Ranches & Agriculture
Hunting & Outdoor Operations
Rural Businesses
Nonprofit Organizations
Contractors & Field Crews
Remote Property Operations

Shared Infrastructure. Shared Cost. No Profit Margin.

RNRC is a cooperative communications network built around a simple idea: organizations working in rural areas can accomplish more by sharing communications infrastructure than by each trying to build and maintain a separate radio system.

RNRC operates on a cost-sharing model. Members share the actual costs of operating, maintaining, and expanding the network. RNRC is not designed to add a commercial profit margin to radio service. Member charges are intended to support the cooperative and the infrastructure its members use.

By sharing repeater sites, network infrastructure, maintenance, backhaul, and other operating expenses, members can gain access to a much larger and more capable communications system than many could practically build on their own.
